The Newest Addition to Our Family

I'd like to introduce you to Evelyn Johanna Quintanilla Cortez.

She is six and lives in El Salvador.

I'm very excited to be sponsoring her through Compassion International. There are several reasons that I decided to do this - and if you read here, you see one reason why.

When I was a senior in high school, I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in a mission trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I saw first-hand what poverty is like. Not just being "poor" - poverty. We helped build a two-room house out of plywood and taught VBS to children who, despite their poverty, radiated joy.

It's a powerful experience that stays with you forever.

When you log onto Compassion's website, you can look at photos and biographies of the children in need. There are so many.

Evelyn was my grandmother's name. I couldn't click "sponsor" fast enough.

Here is a little bit about Evelyn:

"Evelyn makes her home with her father and her mother. Making beds, running errands and cleaning are her household duties. Her father is employed as a laborer and her mother maintains the home. There are 3 children in the family.

As part of Compassion's ministry, Evelyn participates in church activities and Bible class. She is also in kindergarten where her performance is above average. Playing house, playing with dolls and jumping rope are her favorite activities."

I can't wait to find out more about her, and be able to write her letters and know that I'm helping her have nutrition, schooling and the access to Bible school and people there in El Salvador who have a passion for Christ. It costs $38 per month to do this.

I figured - my Savior was born in barn.

That's a darn good example of humility.

I'm not rich and won't ever claim to be. But I have been given more than I ever asked for, and I know Christ calls me to share what He's given.

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."
1 Timothy 6:17-18
